Adcock and White get luck of the draw at BWF World Championships
Chris Adcock and Gabby White had the luck of the draw for the BWF World Championships today.
The 16th seeds received a first-round bye in the mixed doubles when the draw was made in Guangzhou today.
Adcock and White, the 2012 English National champions, will meet Taipei's Chen Hung Ling and Cheng Wen Hsing or Mexican pair Lino Munoz and Cynthia Gonzalez in the second round.
Adcock, who beat four seeded pairs on the way to a silver medal with Scotland's Imogen Bankier at the 2011 Yonex BWF World Championships at Wembley Arena, will expect to meet sixth seeds Muhammad Rijal and Debby Susanto of Indonesia in the third round in the England pair's first big test.
National champions Chris Langridge and Heather Olver will take on Sweden's Nico Ruponen and Amanda Hogstrom in the first round with the winners meeting Korean 11th seeds Yoo Yeon Seong and Jang Ye Na in round two.
Langridge and Adcock are both in the men's doubles. National champions Langridge and Peter Mills start against Hong Kong pair Chan Tsz Kit and Lo Lok Kei with fourth seeds Hiroyuki Endo and Kenichi Hayakawa of Japan awaiting the winners.
Adcock and Andrew Ellis, the 2012 National champions, meet Dutch pair Ruud Bosch and Koen Ridder in the first round and victory will earn them a crack at Chinese ninth seeds Chai Biao and Zhang Nan. Adcock knows all about Zhang as he faced him in that 2011 mixed doubles final.
England's other men's doubles hope Marcus Ellis teams up with Scotland's Paul Van Rietvelde and they start against Norway’s Jonas Christensen and Marius Myhre.
In the women's doubles White and Lauren Smith meet India's Aparna Balan and N. Siki Reddy with the winners facing a daunting test against Chinese seventh seeds Bao Yixin and Zhong Qianxin.
Olver and Kate Robertshaw, the only England squad member who did not play in the 2011 Championships, take on Taipei's Chiang Kai Hsin and Tsaid Pei-Ling with the winners then facing Korean 16th seeds Ko A Ra and Yoo Hae Won.
Rajiv Ouseph, the Commonwealth silver medallist and six-time National champion, was drawn to face 15th seed Chong Wei Feng of Malaysia in the men's singles first round while Toby Penty meets American Howard Shu.
If Ouseph wins his first two matches he would be on course to meet four-times champion Lin Dan, who is in the opposite half of the draw to top seed Lee Chong Wei, the 2011 runner-up and Olympic silver medallist behind the Chinese star. Lin Dan is unseeded having only played in the Asian Games since his Olympic triumph at Wembley.
In the women's singles English National champion Sarah Walker will play Kate Foo Kune of Mauritius with Korean fifth seed Sung Ji Hyun awaiting the winner.
The World Championships take place in Guangzhou from August 5-11.
